The remark by President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday that none of his 36 ministers is corrupt is indeed lamentable and casts doubt over the avowal of the Federal Government to fight corruption. It is also indicative that the APC Government has a totally warped understanding of corruption.
I’m aware that one of the many charges against the PDP is corruption, which actually drove this nebulous “change agenda”. I also understand that most APC top shots were serious members of the much maligned PDP, who also contributed to the rot in the land. These former PDP members who now find refuge in the APC were in policy-making positions and had their characters smeared at various times by charges of corruption.
What is very clear now is that membership of the APC makes even a certified treasury looter a saint in the government of Muhammadu Buhari. Buhari’s ministers are Nigerians, predominantly the circulating elite that have milked this country dry.
For Buhari to make such reckless comment shows the shallowness of the intellectual content of his administration and the dubiety of our leaders. At least I know that one of the 36 ministers was jailed by Buhari in 1993 for corruption. That that minister has suddenly become a saint under Buhari tells us the character of Buhari and the proclivity of our leaders for double speak.
