President Buhari’s Nimbo Limbo

By Sam Asoluka

When the present APC Government led by Muhammadu Buhari were in opposition and ‘begging’ Nigerians to give them a chance to govern the country, they promised ‘everything’ under the sun. What they did not promise was what they did not remember and some Nigerians believed

and hailed them to high heaven. Some of these ‘promisers’ were Governors, Senators, House of Representative Members and other High Ranking Office Holders and respected individuals in the land with supposedly adequate knowledge of the economy.

They were neither on drugs nor did Nigerians influence or force them to make the promises. Now in power, the same APC, the same people, led by Muhammadu Buhari cannot remember anything or everything they promised Nigerians during the elections.

And instead of apologising to the people for their collective amnesia, incompetence and inability to address the social, political and economic problems facing the country they revel in voodoo economics and beguile the people with vile stuff and padded budget that magically passed at the National Assembly.

President Buhari has spent over one year in office but Nigerians do not know the vision his administration is trying to articulate. He has not engaged Nigerians in any meaningful way to address the problem/issues facing the country. His communication is one-way, ineffective or at best informational; his body language oozes threat and there is nothing on ground to show for over 365 days he had dipped his hands into the ‘Empty Treasury’ his party told the world he inherited from the previous government. Regrettably, Nigerians know him more now for his globe-trotting, unguarded statements and vindictive hounding of his fellow compatriots who did not vote for him in the last elections and those he labelled as corrupt using government instruments like EFCC, DSS, ICPC, etc.

And, it is exhilarating to see that those who sold lies to Nigerians in-order to get rid of Dr Goodluck Jonathan as President and endear themselves to President Muhammadu Buhari are now ‘in death row’ and gnashing their teeth as the Nigeria we know has turned to ONE NORTH and all top posts NORTHERNISED.

From what he has done so far, the constitutional reflection of Federal Character in National appointments have vanished or been vandalised and government turned to a one-man business. Thus, a united Nigeria is fast becoming an illusion as a result of the untruth the government dish out daily to the people.

The truth is that Nigeria is sinking and rudderless. The citizens do not know what to do, neither do they know what the government is doing or intends to do next. Uncertainty rules and in any direction you look the incidence of terrorism, murder, kidnapping, armed robbery and much more are on the rise.

It looks like Nigerians are at war with Nigeria and there is no sincere effort by the leaders of the country to seek or search for a peaceful resolution to the mayhem that is gradually encircling the country whose citizens were once confirmed as the happiest people in a global survey despite living in abject poverty.

As the clouds gather in Nigeria, the citizens are understandably scared and helpless. Terrorism which the armed forces are supposed to be fighting in the North is slowly but steadily permeating the nooks and crannies of other parts of the country in the form of herders and the security services are doing nothing about it. Rather they are out and about shooting and killing unarmed young men and women who are using only prayer, music and dance to peacefully agitate for a Sovereign State of Biafra.

Now, the herders. They are everywhere and on the loose, killing and torturing people who stand in their way or ask them to leave their land. They have unleashed mayhem in Benue, Ondo and Enugu states and the government did nothing but issued vague statements condemning the killings and kidnappings in those places.

And the police have now confirmed arrest of those who allegedly carried out the brutal killing of innocent natives of Ukpabi Nimbo, Enugu State. They also stated that they seized videos showing how the alleged killers carried out the killings. Let’s hope those involved will have their day in court.

The massacre in Nimbo was gruesome and will remain indelible in the minds of decent and peace loving Nigerians. The mayhem may even define Buhari’s Presidency because the security services failed to do their work despite receiving intelligence report earlier regarding the impending bloodbath.

As the massacre was going on, the presidency prevaricated, President

Buhari was in limbo and the herders were in Nimbo. The inertia is Buhari’s Nimbo limbo.
