It was in vibrant South London and the hall was packed full with Nigerians and their friends as Engineer Percy Osy Ogueri declared his intension to stand as a candidate of All Progressive Congress (APC) for Ihite Uboma constituency in Imo State House of Assembly in 2015 election.
An elated Engineer Ogueri told the audience that he has been accepted by his constituency to contest the House of Assembly position, that his acceptance was based on his capability, service and outstanding benevolence to the community.
I am here today to raise fund for my campaign. And as you can see, my family, friends and club – The Sunshine Club, are all here to assist and support me by way of logistics and finance; that is the first step in actualising my dream and serving my people come 2015.
Speaking at the event, Barrister Mike Merenini said ‘Ihite Uboma Constituency is lucky to have a sound and solid man like Osy Ogueri. The attendance here today cuts across all the political parties. It is not about any political party. All the parties are here today, it is about the person, a distinguished Diaspora personality who wants to go home and make all of us proud. He wants our support and we will give it to him unreservedly.
Engineer Percy Osy Ogueri is a grass root person. He was born and bred in Ihite Uboma, where he had also his Primary and Secondary School education. He graduated from the University of Ibadan and later relocated to the United Kingdom where he did an Engineering Programme in Electrical Maintenance and MBA in General Management at the University of East London (UEL).
Osy as he is fondly called has continuously worked for at least 15 years in the UK. And all the years abroad, he has been visiting home regularly. ‘I did not leave my people behind while in the UK, I have always been with them, identified with their problems to see how I can assist them. So, I think with that on my side, I believe strongly that my people will be happy to reciprocate my good gesture and elect me to serve them in the State House of Assembly’.
Asked if he has any message for his Ihite-Uboma constituency, the affable Engineer Osy said ‘Ihite-Uboma have a son in me that can deliver, they have a son that will represent them very well if elected; they have a son that will follow in the footsteps of the current speaker of the House of Assembly Chief Benjamin Uwajumogu. They have a son in me that they will be proud of at the end of my tenor if elected. So I am promising them that, I will represent them very well.
