CANUK TO HOLD DISABILITY AWARENESS DAY IN LONDON

The Central Association of Nigerians in the United Kingdom (CANUK) is organising a Disability Awareness Day (DAD) on September 19, 2015 at Enfield Town Hall, Enfield, London. The Awareness day is to drive-home the plight of Nigerians with Disability in the United Kingdom.

Speaking at a news conference held at the Nigerian High Commissioning London today, the Chairman of CANUK, Mr.  Babatunde Olaniyi Loye said the Awareness Day is in preparation for the observance of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities which comes up in December 3, 2015. He said the Central Association of Nigerians in the United Kingdom (CANUK) has therefore, decided to use the Disability Fun Day to draw attention to the plights of Persons with Disability within our Community here in the United Kingdom. This is otherwise referred to as Disability Awareness Day – DAD.

Speaking further, Mr Loye said ‘the aim also is to engage and encourage social inclusion of these Persons with Disabilities, and specially recognise and celebrate their worth and talents, raise funds to support initiatives that will enhance and provide a fulfilled lifestyle for them as individuals with respect and dignity’.

‘Another aim will be to encourage and promote trans-boundary interactions between Persons with Disabilities here in the UK with our brothers and sisters back home in Nigeria. The objective is to introduce and promote the opportunities prevalent in the UK also in Nigeria. There is a greater need for increased awareness of rights and privileges of Persons with Disability in Nigeria’ he said.

Mr Loye called on Nigerians and their friends in the United Kingdom to come on the day to support our brothers and sisters who are physically challenged.
