Indigenes of Owerri Zone of Imo State, Nigeria resident in the United Kingdom have launched an Organisation known as OWERRI THINK TANK to harness and support the political interests of the zone. According to the promoters, Owerri Think Tank will serve as a vehicle for its members who are interested in and want to actualize their political ambitions in Nigeria. And secondly, support any credible individual from Owerri zone irrespective of his or her political affiliation to run and win the governorship election in 2015 in line with Imo zoning arrangement.
According to the group, Owerri Think-Tank will be forward-looking, vocal, dedicated and a strong advocate of equity and advancement of democracy in Imo State in particular and Nigeria in general.
And to push forward their agenda, the group elected the following interim officers to run its affairs: Sir Emmanuel Ahanonu-Chairman; Nze Sam Asoluka-Secretary; Mr Dozie Onyeanuna-Assistant Secretary and Mr Henry Okereafor- Treasurer
Speaking at the launch, the interim President Sir Emma Ahanonu thanked the members for finding him fit to lead the group and promised to work ‘flat out’ to grow the organisation and actualise the dream of the People of Owerri Zone.
‘This is a tall order but somebody has to do it. We shalll work with our brothers and sisters from Orlu and Okigwe Zones to achieve the singular objective of electing a credible Man or Woman from Owerri Zone to govern the state in 2015. And, it is indeed fair to give one of us from the zone the opportunity to serve the state in that capacity as other zones have taken turns to serve the state in the past. It’s now the turn of Owerri Zone to occupy Douglas House, Chief Emma Ahanonu said.
Continuing, Chief Ahanonu said ‘our work is not just to fight for Equity, our work is also work to defend and strengthened our fragile democratic Institutions for the good of everybody and for future generations. The Think-Tank will not be tied to any particular Political Party or individual and will effectively collaborate with individuals and groups in other Zones in Imo state to achieve its goals.
As it’s natural and necessary for the progression of our work, Owerri Think-Tank will liaise with other Owerri Diaspora Groups in the United Kingdom and outside in the pursuit of its objectives.
Membership of the Think Tank is open to Professional People from Owerri Zone living in the UK.
