LETTER TO MY COUNTRYMEN

As we arrive the defining moments of our existence as a nation and country a “NEW NORMAL IS POSSIBLE” according to the erudite professor of law, Professor. Nnamdi Onyeka Obiareri.

The last couple of days have presented a rude awakening to both, the elected and appointed leadership of this country including the rich and wealthy in the maxim “POWER BELONGS TO THE PEOPLE” and the “THE YOUTHS ARE THE LEADERS OF TOMORROW” has become a Nigerian reality.

As the trustees of our power, history is now than ever before beckoning on them to discharge this sacred burden of trust and responsibility to Nigerians without any further delay or pontification as such will be catastrophic to both the country, the rich and the leadership of the country. There is no better time than NOW.

Surprisingly, the combined effect of this protests and struggle for good governance and enthronement of strong institutions as a safeguard was spontaneous and sporadic resulting in a determined resilience and unity of purpose by the protesters, all protesting for our collective good. They have been very organised, non-violent even under provocation, intellectually objective and financially independent without any form of financial influence from vested interests.

My countrymen, it is a notorious fact that this systematic damage to our collective nationhood and commonwealth has been occasioned since the early political and economic leadership of this country from 1960 till date. Unfortunately, the bulk falls on the desk of President Muhammad Buhari who is the current boss of the Nigerian nation. He must not see this national protest as a challenge to his leadership but must see it as a divine call. He must rise to the occasion and run with the ball. He should seize the opportunity and bequeath the Nigerian youths and indeed all Nigerians a new NIGERIA filled with HOPE and ENTHUSIASM because IT IS NEVER TOO LATE TO CORRECT A MISTAKE. By doing so he will leave behind a historic legacy and history be kind to him despite his shortcomings as a human.

As we all patiently and hopefully await a sustained and honest national dialogue to resolve the begging national issues which  revolves on equity, fairness and justice, I urge Mr. President to deftly shun the bad influence and advice of all those who are neither seeing the inherent dangers of this development nor are blinded by their pecuniary and political interests against the quick handling of this protest.

May God of mercy grant all of us the additional tact and wisdom to manage this consciousness, so that at the end, IT SHALL END IN PRAISE. So help us God!
