PROFILE OF HON. SAMUEL NNAEMEKA ANYANWU

Hon. Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu (Samdaddy), means different things to different people. To his constituents, he is the best man for his job, taking pragmatic steps to transform too soon, his Ikeduru State constituency in Imo State. To his colleagues in the Imo State House of Assembly, he is perceived as the “Daddy” of the House, a rare breed parliamentarian blessed with qualities to rally his colleagues to achieve strategic legislative goals.

Born on June 18, 1965, in Umuduruanyanwu Obodo Amaimo, Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State, to the family of Late Chief Sebastian Anyanwu and Chief Mrs. Ezinne Virginia Anyanwu. Hon. Samuel Anyanwu commenced his quest for academic excellence at Central School Amaimo. He later proceeded to Amaimo High School where he obtained his West African School Certificate. His desire to get the best in education took him to University of Port Harcourt, where he bagged a Bachelors Degree in Political Science. These qualifications adequately positioned him because he used them as a spring board to launch himself to an attitude that has kept rising till today.

Hon. Anyanwu was the Secretary Imo State Youth Organization (IYO) in 1983, political leader in the Democratic Party of Nigeria (DPN) and laterpolitical leader in the UNCP. In 2003, he was the Transition Committee Chairman of Ikeduru Local Government Council, ALGON secretary in Imo State in 2003 to 2004, and in 2004, Hon Anyanwu was elected the Executive Chairman of Ikeduru LGA. In 2007, he was saddled with a greater responsibility, to represent his people in the State House of Assembly. Since the rewarded for hard work is more work, Hon Anyanwu was again reelected by his people in 2011 to serve a second tenure in the State House of Assembly.

Shortly after assuming duties in the Imo State House of Assembly, focused and determined, Hon. Anyanwu started manifesting his campaign slogan “Action” into concrete action by fulfilling the electoral promises he made to his people, and thus ensuring that democracy dividends trickle down his Ikeduru constituency. The cardinal points of his electoral promise are in the areas of credible representation, poverty reduction through youth empowerment, and women empowerment, constituency projects and so on. To this end, his performance was amazing.

He was able to position himself in the State Assembly, a development he explored to attract amenities to his Constituency. He also was able to establish good rapport with the relevant ministries and parastatals, all geared toward delivering democracy dividends to his Ikeduru constituents. Hon. Anyanwu who headed the House Committee on Public Accounts, a centrally placed committee, is a household name in the Imo State House of Assembly. His views are not only respected by his colleagues, he is one of the stabilizing forces in the House. His hardwork and knack for excellence hitherto earned him the chairman of two House standing committees of Commerce and Industry, as well of finance. A rare feat in any legislative House.

Hon Anyanwu has sponsored and co-sponsored over thirty bills and motions in his eventful legislative career. Chiefly among them is the Customary Court Amendment Law, a law that revolutionalized the Customary Court System in the State and gave jobs to several lawyers.

Hon. Samuel Anyanwu is a perfect study in hardwork, level-headedness thoroughness, balance, stability, intelligence, humility and loyalty. These sterling qualities have in no small way resulted in his unabated rising profile.

A youthful, respected and influential politician, Hon. Anyanwu apart from heading the House Committee on Public Accounts was also the Vice Chairman House Committee on Ethics, Petitions and Privileges, member House Committee on Local Government, member House committee on Culture and Tourism etc. He also headed the House adhoc committee on Security and Safety in the state, adhoc committee on the probe of allegations against Governor Ikedi Ohakim, adhoc committee to investigate the removal of the Acting General manager of Adapalm Ohaji, adhoc committee to look into areas Imo State could be integrated in the Presidential post amnesty programme among others. In all these responsibilities, he has manifested excellent qualities and savvy that has made him a pride to the people of Ikeduru.

Hon. Anyanwu had in the recent past been a member of the House Foreign delegation to Ontario Canada on a parliamentary interaction pact, delegate to the world Igbo Congress in Tampa Florida, USA. Attended a Legislative Executive relationship seminar at the Obudu Ranch in Cross River State, participated at the Nigeria National Summit on Environmental Governance in Abuja, participated at a workshop on Budget Implementation at the Imo Concord Hotel, Participated at the National Seminar for Local Government Chairman at the International Conference Centre Abuja, a participant at a workshop on Tender Formulation, Project Prioritization and Maintenance Culture held at Imo Concord Hotel Owerri, and was also member of the recent House delegation to Israel and South Africa.

A doctorate degree holder in Business Administration, Hon, Anyanwu is a Paul Harris Fellow of the Rotary International, a Word Peace Ambassador of the International Association of World Peace Advocates, and a patron of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) in Imo State. With an infectious smile, and handsome look, he has special flair for Human Resources Management and Control, as well as strategic planning. His hobbies include reading, traveling and watching football.

Hon. Samuel Anyanwu is a simple minded but very thorough person, whose dexterity earns laurels most of the time. He is evidently very industrious and pragmatic. To a large extent, he is very philanthropic and has a passion to help the needy. As an energetic and promising man, he is ever ready to put in his best.

His outstanding contributions have so far attracted to him a number of traditional Chieftaincy titles, and award from various churches, institutions, bodies and communities prominent among them are the prestigious Clan chief of Ikeduru, the most press friendly lawmaker by Imo Guild of Indigenous Editors, Exellence award by Mbaitoli/ Ikeduru Students Association Federal Polytechnic Nekede Chapter, Great Pillar of Ikeduru Land Award by National Association of Ikeduru Students North Central Chapter, Akaekpuchi Onwa 1 of Avuvu and Uzoagba, Enyioha 1 of Iho, all in Ikeduru Local Government Area, and the Ugodioramma 1 of Agbaja Nwangele Local Government of Imo State, the Ezi Enyi of St. Mathew’s Anglican church Atta Ikeduru among others.

He is married to delectable Florence Olachi Anyanwu (nee) Madumere.He is blessed with three lovely children Jennifer, Samuel and Trust. An amiable and friendly Catholic Christian, Hon. Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu is an accomplished contemporary politician.
