NIGERIANS IN DIASPORA ARE IMPORTANT… WITH MEASURED DESPERATION

ekehOn the importance of Nigerians in the Diaspora, we also interviewed a Nigerian, Mr Sab Ekeh who lives in Germany.

Mr Eke is a Tip-top Media Consultant and an established Nigerian in Europe. He has represented many Media Organizations in Asia and Europe in various activities-sports, conferences, workshops etc. And presently, he has in his wings a very successful Media Outfit.

Good afternoon Mr Ekeh, In your opinion are Nigerians in the Diaspora really important?

I am of the opinion that Nigerians in Diaspora are important to their home country. Reason being that despite regular remittance of money and other assistances to family and friends back home Nigerians in the Diaspora are the engine of growth in the economy of Nigeria. They are in the forefront of transfer of technology creating jobs and reducing unemployment in the country.

Should the opinions of Nigerians in the Diaspora count on issues in Nigeria?

The opinions of Nigerians under normal situation should matter on national issues. But it’s not often the case because of lack of unity among Nigeria in the Diaspora. The Diaspora is as divided along ethnic lines as the country back home. There is also a measure of desperation from Nigerian in the Diaspora bothering on pecuniary reasons.

How can the government engage or partner with Nigerians in the Diaspora?

The government can engage or partner with Nigerians in the Diaspora in nation building through the various platforms open to them like NIDOE, Nigeria Community Organisations, Ethnic Organisations, NGOs and Private individuals who have earned the respect of their adopted countries and goodwill from people back home.
