The projected winner of the Presidential election Joe Biden and projected winner Vice President Kamala Harris of the United States America in their first speeches together last night (Saturday) called for unity and reconciliation in the country. Their speeches therefore signalled a very important departure from the hostile politics that prevailed in the Trump era.

Mr. Biden said “the people of this nation have

spoken. They have delivered us a clear victory, a convincing victory, a victory for ‘we the people’. We won with the most votes ever cast in the history of our nation”

“I sought this office to restore the soul of America, to r

ebuild the backbone of this nation, the middle class, to make America respected around the world again, and to unite us here at home” Mr. Biden said.

Mr. Biden further said that he will assemble great Scientists and experts to fight Covid-19. He thanked the black community, saying ‘You always had my back’.

In her speech, Kamala Harris paid tribute to her mother, the Black Community and her South Asian American heritage. Harris said also that her part will pave the way for women of colour in future. “I may be the first woman in this office, I will not be last”.
